Which Level of Vitamin A to choose for your skin?
Understanding Levels
Dr. James Fulton was the co-developer of Retin-A®, the super active for the treatment of acne and aging skin. Very effective, often very irritating and photosensitizing, Retin-A® requires a prescription. Dr. Fulton wanted to develop an over-the-counter alternative that would provide all the benefits -accelerated cell renewal (up to 50%!!), cell regeneration, collagen synthesis, reduction of wrinkles, more even complexion and markedly diminished imperfections.- without excessive irritation. Vitamin A propionate was his breakthrough, a new "Gold Standard" retinol that became the foundation of Vivant's vitamin A therapies. Comparison of vitamin A doses
Other over-the-counter retinols cannot make this side-by-side comparison. Their molecular formulations are too large to reach the deeper levels of the dermis where they can effect changes in the skin. Only vitamin A propionate works at this level.
LEVEL 1:DERM-A-GEL Or DERM-A-RENEW. If you have never used vitamin A before, and you have reactive, dry or inflamed skin (redness, rosacea, inflammatory acne, etc.),Derm-A-Gel is your starting point. Derma-A-Renew will be perfect for rosacea and combines peptides for an additional rejuvenating effect.
There is no hard and fast rule as to when to level up, if it's not have used the product for a minimum of 6 weeks. It depends on your skin and your goals. If you want to develop your results faster and more intensely, it's time to step up a gear.
LEVEL 2:EXFOL-A. This formulaincreases retinol factor and adds glycolic acid. It is ideal for acne-prone skin, scars and to prevent signs of aging in normal to oily skin. This could be your maintenance level.
LEVEL 3:EXFOL-A-Forté. If you are used to the Level 2 serum and want a deeper action (more severe acne or photo-damage, more marked scarring and wrinkles), this transformative AHA cocktail adds salicylic and citric acid to the mix as well as a higher percentage of vitamin A propionate. A game changer!
